With a vacancy in the goaltending department new Bees Head Coach Doug Sheppard wasted no time in securing the services of 2017/18 treble winning goaltender Dean Skinns.
The 33 year old netminder has experience of the BNL, EIHL, EPIHL and NIHL as well as backstopping three different teams to trophies.
Born in Basingstoke, Dean started hockey at the Basingstoke Arena as a junior and made his senior team debut for the BNL Basingstoke Bison in 2001/02 recording a .916 save percentage. He remained with the Bison for the following season still in the BNL before playing two seasons for the Hampshire club at the country’s top level in the Elite League.
In 2005/06 he first came to Bracknell where 48 appearances saw him record a goals against average of 2.91. That stay would only be a single season before he made the swap to Slough Jets for three seasons with save percentages above .90 in all three years. In his second season with Slough he recorded the best save percentage of any goalie in the league as well as being a Play-off winner.
His next stop was Guildford Flames where he played a single year winning the EPL Cup while in Surrey. He was back in Basingstoke for the 2010/11 season but midway through the 2011/12 season left the Bison and saw out the year with the Swindon Wildcats where he was retained for 2012/13.
For 2013/14 he was back in Basingstoke under Doug Sheppard’s coaching and his performances in back stopping the team to a Cup and Play-off double saw him selected an EPL All-Star. One more season followed in Hamsphire before a year each in Milton Keynes and Guildford.
Last season Dean was back at Basingstoke as the Bison prepared for their inaugural NIHL season and backstopped the club to a League, Southern Play-offs and National Play-offs treble with a League save percentage of .919 and an even more impressive Play-off save percentage of .963.
Head Coach Doug Sheppard said of his latest signing; “With Dean I know exactly what I’m getting, a proven goalie who’s won silverware. He’s a big game goalie and seems to play his best when it matters most. Dean is someone who’s familiar with Bracknell and has played here before. It should be a comfortable environment for him.”
On returning to Bracknell Dean Skinns said; “I’m excited to be back in Bracknell! I enjoyed my time here before and I’m looking forward to facing the challenges of the new season!”
Dean is 5’6, weighs 123lbs and catches left handed. His jerseys will be available for Own and Loan as well as being available for Player Sponsorship with full details on these packages and season tickets being announced at our launch event this Wednesday at 7pm at Blues Smokehouse in Bracknell.
