Players seven and eight of the recap from last week’s season ticket launch event involve the capture of signatures from Josh Smith and Josh Martin.
22 year old Josh Martin learned his hockey in Bracknell before transferring to Guildford for his Under 18s hockey. After a year out Josh returned to hockey with the Solent Devils in NIHL1 before returning to Bracknell and making his Hornets Debut scoring 2+7 across the two clubs.
In 2015/16, playing for the Hornets and recording 13+13 Josh also pulled on the Bees jersey six times. The following season he was back with the Hornets before making his full time debut for the Bees last season in NIHL1 scoring 10+14 from 30 games.
The second player to recap today is former and now returning Bee Josh Smith who’s another product of the Bracknell junior development. Josh’s first senior hockey came in 2013/14 with the Bracknell Hornets and a year later he scored his first Bees goal along with an assist in 22 games while also playing NIHL with the Hornets and Under 18s with the Drones.
Two further seasons with the Bees followed and in 2016/17 Josh received international recognition being picked for the GB Under 20 team.
With the EPL disbanding Josh moved to Basingstoke and formed a key part of the treble winning Bison side of last year with 7+10 from 28 games while turning out five more times for GB Under 20s.
Doug Sheppard said of his Josh signings; “Both Smith and Martin are my type of players, they show up every night with a consistent work ethic, you know exactly what you’re going to get night in night out. They’re character guys that play the game the right way, with grit and determination.”
Josh Martin stands 6’1 and weighs 165lbs while Josh Smith stands at 5’11 and weighs 172lbs. Both players shoot right handed. The two Joshs will be available for own and loan and player sponsorship.
