Paynter comes home

To conclude the week of recapping the Season Ticket Launch night announcements Head Coach Doug Sheppard confirms the return to the Bees of Ben Paynter.

The 23 year old no nonsense forward played his junior hockey at the Hive posting good numbers right through and in 2011/12, at the age of 16, he made his first senior appearances for the Bracknell Hornets registering 2 assists in 21 appearances.

The following season Ben concentrated solely on the Hornets turning out 29 times and putting up numbers of 3+6. A solid full season with the Hornets brought him to the attention of the Bees and he spent 2013/14 split between the Bees EPIHL team and the Hornets NIHL team.

His 2014/15 season started at the Hive with the Bees before a mid-season transfer to the Isle of Wight where he laced up for the Wightlink Raiders 31 times scoring 4 goals with 8 assists also. A complete season on the Island followed where he scored 6+12 in 36 games while accumulating 64 PiMs.

Ben was signed to the Wightlink Raiders for the following season but managed just 1 appearance before the rink closure ended ice hockey on the Island. He transferred to Oxford City Stars where he put up 15 points from 16 games as well as making a guest appearance for Manchester Phoenix in the EPIHL.

Last year Ben played NIHL in Streatham for the Redhawks chipping in with 5+8 while his physical play saw him attract 120 PiMs.

Head Coach Doug Sheppard spoke of his signing; “Ben is a great team player, he will do whatever it takes for the team to be successful. Ben will chip in with some gritty goals and provide plenty of energy with his physical style of play.

Right shooting Ben is 5’10 and weighs 170lbs. Like all Bees players he is available for player sponsorship and his three jerseys will be available for own and loan.
