A bright young defenceman joins the Bees

Starting a brand new week Head Coach Doug Sheppard announces that he has done a deal that sees young defenceman Edwards Knaggs join the Bees.

The 20 year old was born in Hemel Hempstead and initially learned his ice hockey in Milton Keynes but he’s no stranger to Berkshire having played two seasons with the Bracknell Stingers (u16) and Drones (u18) from 2012/13.

He returned to his home town for 2014/15 fitting in a single Under 18 game and 32 appearances for the MK Thunder. His EPL debut also game in this season with 3 Lightning appearances together with a call up to the Great Britain Under 18s.

Throughout his junior career the defenceman has also represented Team South West at U13, U15 and U17 levels in the annual Conference weekend.

The following season Edward played all but one of the Milton Keynes Lightning games registering 7 assists for only 2 PiMs. His first international goals came while on GB Under 18 duty, scoring 2+2, and he also made four starts for the GB Under 20s.

In 2016/17 Edward played the final EPL season for the Milton Keynes Lightning as well as another call up to GB Under 20s.

Last season Edward signed to the Peterborough Phantoms on a two way contract with the Milton Keynes Lightning, now in the Elite League. In 31 games he returned his highest senior points tally with 3+7 for the Phantoms as well as picking up 2 assists for the Lightning. He tallied 1+3 in 5 GB Under 20 starts as well.

Doug Sheppard talked of his signing; “I’m pleased we’ve been able to recruit one of the top under 20s from last year. He has ambition to play at the very top level and coming into Bracknell we’ll be doing what we can to help him develop his game. He’s already had a taste of the Elite League and we’ll be helping him, along with any of our players who have ambition to move up, to get both development and experience that will give him the best chance of getting back to the Elite League.

On putting pen to paper for the Bees Edward added; “Doug has a great profile as a coach and I am delighted to be joining him with the Bees this season. The team is looking really good and I’m honoured to be part of it. I spent two fantastic years here as a junior playing for the u16’s and u18’s. Coming back as a senior player is exciting and I’m sure we will be up there competing for every piece of silverware!”

Edward stands at 5’11 and weighs 168lbs. He shoots left handed. All three of his 2018/19 jerseys will be available for Own and Loan with the draw for all Own and Loan jerseys being done at Honies on Monday July 9th at the Bees season ticket evening.
