The final weekend of the opening month of the season sees the Berkshire Cycle Bracknell Bees back in action as they play against Invicta at the Hive on Saturday night ahead of a trip to Streatham on Sunday night.
The Bees were in Gillingham a couple of weeks ago to take the points in their first clash of the season with Invicta Dynamos.
The Dynamos operate under Head Coach Kevin Parrish and this will be Matt Foord’s first trip back to the Hive since signing for the Kent club. Foord is one of many new players signed this summer including former Peterborough Phantoms import Martin Susters and former Bee Callum Best. Cameron and Grant Bartlett have both stepped up from NIHL2 with Chelmsford Chieftains and Brandon Miles has moved from Streatham. Goaltender Adam Long signed from Hull to replace the departed Damien King.
On Sunday, following the Saturday home clash with Invicta, it’s a road trip to Streatham to play them for the second time in the season. Last Saturday’s game was a tough test for the Bees as Streatham failed to give up, battling into the last minute before the Bees secured the win. While Ryan Watt is still some time away from his first appearance of the season newly signed defenceman Niko Suoraniemi will make his debut giving Doug Sheppard his first use of a six man defensive core.
Head Coach Doug Sheppard looked forward to the weekend; “We’re playing two teams this weekend that we’re already familiar with starting on Saturday with Invicta. We’re expecting another big crowd with the school zone being back. On Sunday we’re in Streatham for the return of a game that came down to the final minute last weekend so we’ll know it’ll be tough at their place.”
Bees are in home ice action on Saturday against Invicta at 6.00pm and play away on Sunday in Streatham in a 6.45pm start.
