Weekend review – a mixed weekend

The Berkshire Cycles Bracknell Bees started a double home weekend with a visit from the league leaders, Peterborough Phantoms.

Danny Milton and Jordan Marr took the starts in net and Stephen Matthews called the teams together for the opening face off. 1.54 into the game Tyler VanKleef netted a powerplay goal giving the Bees a lead they wouldn’t lose. At 8.18 Harvey Stead stepped up and doubled the lead and at 12.33 Vankleef’s second strike made it 3-0 before Zach Milton completed the opening period’s scoring with a goal at 16.53.

It took just a minute of the second period for the Bees to make it 5-0 as Josh Smith netted but a powerplay goal from Ales Padelek ended the shut-out hopes at 24.34. Ryan Sutton scored at 29.37 but Martin Susters looked to keep his team in with a chance scoring Phantoms second at 35.31.

Josh Smith converted a powerplay at 41.18 to make it 7-2 and with that Phantoms changed their netminder with Ryan Bainborough replacing Jordan Marr. Stuart Mogg went on to beat the replacement shot stopper at 52.08 to complete the 8-2 scoreline.

Stephen Matthews took charge of his second game of the weekend and Danny Milton again got the start in net for the Bees against Alex Mettam for the Bison,

An unusually long opening shift eventually ended at 6.39 as Bison’s Alex Sampford scored the opening goal of the game after a fast paced shift that had seen chances come at both ends. Josh Martin and Adam Harding sat out roughing minors at 8.29 and at 4 on 4 Bison’s Tom Ralph netted their second of the night at 9.16. A third strike for the Bison at 10.42 from Adam Harding saw Dean Skinns come on to replace Danny Milton in net. Sklnns kept the net clear for the remainder of the opening period which saw a scrap between Ryan Watt and Danny Ingoldsby see both sit out double fighting minors together with a 2+10 for roughing served by Ben Paynter.

A second period of long shifts was 17.46 old before the next goal in the game which came when George Norcliffe scored for the Bison to make it 0-4 and leave the Bees an uphill task for the final period.

1.31 into the final period Norcliffe netted his second ahead of a holding the stick call against Ryan Watt at 44.08 which saw him also pick up 2 10 minute misconduct penalties meaning an automatic game penalty. With a powerplay in their favour Bees scored their opener at 46.09 when Zach Milton netted but Harding replied for the Bison at 49.46 with their final goal of the game. The last strike of the game came at 52.40 when James Galazzi netted a powerplay goal for the Bees.
