Head Coach of the Berkshire Cycles Bracknell Bees, Doug Sheppard, has had a busy week capturing signatures and the third to be announced this week is the return of forward Josh Smith.
The former Bracknell Junior returned to the Hive last season and despite the year being disrupted by injury, he returned 15+16 in 37 appearances including the Bees opening goal at Coventry in the final four weekend.
His offensive capabilities showed through his entire junior career with excellent numbers posted year on year. In 2014/15 Josh made his debut in the black, white and gold of the Bees combining 1+1 from 22 EPIHL games with 7+14 from a further 22 NIHL games with the Hornets and 14+7 from 12 Under 18 appearances.
Following this highly successful season, two further seasons followed solely playing for the Bees with 28 points coming from 92 games in the final two years of the Premier League. In 2016/17 Josh also received a call up to the GB Under 20s for the World Championships.
2017/18 saw him travel down the M3 where he represented the Bison in their inaugural NIHL year and another Great Britain Under 20s call up came his way.
Last season, despite the injuries, saw Josh record his most productive year to date in senior hockey making the decision to re-sign him an easy one for the Head Coach.
Doug Sheppard explained; “Josh is a key piece for us, he’s a versatile player that will be relied on in all situations. Josh takes pride in the defensive part of his game and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a breakthrough season offensively.”
On signing back with the Bees Josh Smith commented; “I’m looking forward to being back in the black, white and gold this coming season. I know that we’ll have the team to go out and win some silverware this season and hopefully it will be a memorable year for not just the team but also our great fans!”
Josh Smith stands at 5’11, weighs 172lbs and shoots right handed.
