Zachary’s story. The reason behind our lilac jerseys

As you will have noticed, either from games at the Hive, Bees TV or our excellent game photos from Kevin Slyfield the TSI World Bracknell Bees have been icing in Lilac jerseys this October as the Bees team up against cancer.

There are still a couple of own and loan opportunities left on these game worn jerseys or alternatively you can purchase a replica jersey from the club shop. A percentage of each sale goes to the Royal Marsden Hospital, a hospital very close to our hearts as they’ve treated Zachary and got him through his battle with cancer.

Zachary’s Dad Mark White explains; “Zachary was diagnosed with AML leukaemia on Valentine’s Day this year and has spent most of the past 7 months at the Royal Marsden in Sutton. Zachary himself has had the best treatment possible in the best surroundings. The hospital staff in all aspects were amazing as well as the facilities there being very child friendly and again the best available.

There were lots of people around trying to make this awful time more bearable for Zachary whilst he was in hospital, from the doctors, nurses, teachers and the play team. They all played a massive part in keeping him positive, active and taking his and our minds off of the terrible situation.

There were lots of charities visiting again to bring in gifts and to help play and occupy all the children in the ward at that time. The hospital and its staff made the longest 7 months feel like it went much quicker which was really good for the whole family.

The Bracknell Bees have been amazingly supportive and have kept giving him little things to look forward to through this treatment. This has definitely helped. The whole hockey family have been amazing too.”

Zachary will be attending the game this Sunday, his first for a long time, and will get to see the Bees ice in the shirts they’re wearing in his honour raising money for the hospital that helped him battle with and win over cancer.

The Bees will take on the Basingstoke Bison this Sunday at 5.30pm at the Hive. Tickets are available on 01344 789000. Away fans are advised this weekend to book tickets for block 2.
