Weekend review – Two close games don’t go our way

The TSI World Bracknell Bees started their weekend on home ice as the Peterborough Phantoms visited the Hive.

The only goal of the opening period game with 3.19 left to play in the first period when Glen Billing converted a powerplay chance.

Aidan Doughty pulled one back for the Bees to level the scoring at 28.25 but Billing netted his second of the night at 38.20 to ensure the Phantoms took the second interval one goal to the good.

Robin Kovar netted a delayed penalty goal at 51.48 to set up a tense finish to the game but Petr Stepanek scored at 56.31 to push the Phantoms back ahead. Despite the Bees taking their time out and playing the majority of the last 2 minutes with an empty net they couldn’t find the equaliser.

On Sunday night the TSI World Bracknell Bees travelled to Romford to take on Raiders IHC in a return match from seven days earlier.

The teams traded early goals with Bhahoslav Novak netting at 3.52 and Robin Kovar equalising at 7.37. Vanya Antonov scored the go ahead goal at 9.22 and the Bees ended the period ahead by a single goal.

The second period belonged to the home team with goals from Lukas Sladovsky (24.59), Olegs Lascenko (29.32), Aaron Connolly (30.44) and Jake Sylvester (34.55) completing a 4-0 period.

Bees raced back into the game in the third period starting with Brendan Baird scoring at 46.26 before Roman Malinik netted a powerplay goal at 51.24. Antonov’s second was the equaliser at 53.09 but with just 38 seconds left Mason Webster scored for the home team putting them back in the lead. From there they clung on despite a brave Bees fight to the final buzzer.
