Weekend preview – Long road weekend ahead

It’s a road weekend for the TSI World Bracknell Bees as Saturday they travel to Telford before heading further on Sunday to play Hull.

The weekend starts in Telford Ice Arena against the Tigers. The Tigers come under the stewardship of Head Coach and General Manager Tom Watkins who’s built a competitive squad for the inaugural NIHL National Division.

The Tigers net will be guarded most likely by Brad Day and Massimo Agostini provides the back up services.

Their defence is anchored by former GB star 42 year old Jonathan Weaver, who’s put up 10 points in 9 games, with 25 year old Danny Rose being the next most experienced in amongst the defence core.

40 year old Canadian Jason Silverthorn is the leader of the pack up front with fellow veteran Rick Plant. Dominic Florian leads their scoring with 15 points from 9 outings while Scott McKenzie follows with 12 points.

On Sunday the Bees travel further north to visit the Hull Arena and take on the Pirates. Jason Hewitt is the Player/Coach of the Pirates and has most of the bases covered with his roster as evidenced by the victory in last year’s Coventry finals weekend.

20 year old Ashley Smith is the starting goaltender for the Pirates and is protected well by his defence. Kevin Phillips anchors the defence and is backed up by well known names such as Jamie Chilcott, Lee Haywood and Jonathan Kirk.

Up front the summer task for Hewitt was to replace the departing Sony Karlsson. Alongside the veteran player/coach are Matty Davies, Bobby Chamberlain, Lee Bonner, Josh Gent and Sam Towner.

Both in defence and up front the Pirates have a lot of youth bedding their way into the side.

The Tigers currently lead the league with a 3 point game over their nearest rivals while the Pirates sit in mid table 5th heading into the weekend.

Head Coach of the Bees Doug Sheppard looked ahead to the weekend; “We are really looking forward to the challenge of two tough road games this weekend.”

Bees play on Saturday in Telford at 7.00pm and play in Hull on Sunday at 5.30pm.

A reminder tickets are now on sale for next Sunday (22nd) final home game before Christmas against Swindon.
