Weekend Review – A “W” before Christmas

The final weekend before Christmas saw the TSI World Bracknell Bees start on the road at Peterborough before entertaining Swindon at the Hive.

While the Bees struggled to get going offensively, the Phantoms found the back of the net first thanks to Martins Susters at 13.59 which was the only goal of the first period.

A powerplay strike from Dominik Gabaj at 20.20 levelled the game but when Ales Padelek struck with a powerplay goal at 30.16 that would turn out to be the game winner. Nathan Pollard added another powerplay goal at 33.59 seeing the home team into a comfortable two goal lead.

Padelek struck with another powerplay goal at 47.32 and Susters added his second at 47.55 to complete the scoring.

On Sunday the Bees skated out for the final time before Christmas with the Hive alive for the visit of the Swindon Wildcats.

A scoreless first period was followed by 7.31 of the second period before Roman Malinik scored the game’s first goal. Aaron Nell levelled the game at 29.02 but with two minutes left in the period Malinik got a tip on an Edward Knaggs shot to send Bracknell to the interval 2-1 ahead.

Dominik Gabaj scored at 42.07 to open a two goal lead but Tyler VanKleef scored at 44.19 to narrow the gap. Josh Smith found himself in space and spun and shot to make it 4-2 at 46.31 but Edgars Bebris buried a rebound from an Aaron Nell shot at 58.10 to reduce the gap again with Marr pulled for the extra skater. Ryan Webb put the game beyond doubt at 59.50 when he scored in the open net.
