Weekend review – Split with Bison and Wildcats

The TSI World Bracknell Bees lined up for a weekend against Basingstoke Bison on the road and the Swindon Wildcats at the Hive.

The hosts had no answer in the first period as the opening 13 minutes saw the Bees forge a commanding lead and chase the starting netminder from the game. Dominik Gabaj, on debut, made an instant impact scoring the opening goal at 7.40 and was followed by Josh Martin on the powerplay at 11.26. A James Gallazi strike at 12.57 saw the end of Dan Weller-Evans streak in net as he left having conceded 3 goals from 6 shots.

The Bees hit penalty trouble in the middle period which saw Ashley Tait score at 21.05 and 24.45 with a powerplay and delayed penalty goal but Zack Milton had scored in between at 22.35. Liam Morris pulled the Bison back to within a goal at 33.53 with another powerplay strike but Bees headed to the second interval still in the lead.

The only goal of the final period came on the powerplay from Roman Malinik at 49.04 sealing the Bees win. With the game over players came together seeing 109 penalty minutes called on the 60 minute mark.

The visitors got a good start as Loris Taylor opened the scoring at 1.21 but a combination of Danny Milton and Renny Marr kept the rest of the period goalless.

It was 1.43 into the second period when Tyler VanKleef scored Swindon’s second but an inspired spell from the Bees saw Stuart Mogg fire in an inch-perfect pass from Dominik Gabaj home at 29.44 before Gabaj would score his own at 33.08 to level the game.

At the start of the third period it was almost impossible to split the teams but with 3.50 left to play Stephen Whitfield put Swindon ahead. Danny Milton left the net with the home team looking for the equaliser but Aaron Nell calmly found the back of the net to put the score 2-4 with 1.37 to play.
